The seed ports close off whenever a squirrel gets on the feeder and open back up when it jumps off. These feeders really do work and come with a Lifetime Warranty against any squirrel damage to them. Another option are the Domed Caged Feeders from industry veterans Droll Yankees, that keep squirrels out and only allow smaller birds inside. We actually sell more of these feeders to customers looking to keep out pesky flocks of blackbirds, starlings & grackels during certain times of year. All of your favorite smaller feeder birds like chickadees, house finches, goldfinches, nuthatches, sparrows, titmice, and other similar sized backyard birds can get right in to feed normally.
