This past February Jim returned to Alaska once again to photogrpah our national symbol, the Bald Eagle as well as other Alaskan wildlife. He hadn't planned on returning so soon after his trip in 2004 but the days of feeding the eagles by famed "Eagle Lady", Jean King of Homer, Alaska will be coming to a close and this fantastic gathering of eagles will someday be over. For over 25 years Jean has been feeding fish to the eagles but there are a few outspoken locals that are against it and they have won the fight. Beginning in June feeding eagles, crows and ravens will be illegal in Homer. They have, however, given Jean a bit longer because she has been an institution there for so long. She can continue with her feedings until 2010 when she will be close to 90!! She has been featured in everything from National Geographic to her own book on the experience and is quite a lady! |
